Baba Viewpoint

The Baba viewpoint is located in a nature reserve above the cycle path leading from Hluboká nad Vltavou towards Purkarec. The rock formation above the river offers a beautiful view of the Vltava valley and is a popular spot for watching both sunrise and sunset.

The easiest access is via the cycle path along the Vltava, which is part of the international EuroVelo 7 route. From the harbor in Hluboká nad Vltavou, it is approximately 4.8 km to the starting point of the hiking ascent.

The common starting point is the place on the cycle path where the red tourist trail branches off from the asphalt road into the grassy slope towards the Poněšice game reserve. Another orientation point is stop no. 4 of the Hluboká – Poněšice educational trail, called Baba.

From here, a short hiking ascent leads along a forest path by the fence of the game reserve. Upon reaching the top of the hill, a narrow path turns right and continues toward the river. The final section leads along a natural trail to the rock formation itself, from where there is a view of the Vltava river meander.

The viewpoint can also be approached by water. There is a pier under the rock where you can briefly moor with a boat, kayak, or paddleboard, and then continue along the cycle path to the same starting point.

The viewpoint is located in a protected area, so visitors are asked to behave considerately towards nature. Stay only on existing trails, exercise increased caution on the rock outcrop, and take all trash back with you.

The trip can also be combined with a visit to Ferrata Hluboká, continuing along the Vltava route towards Purkarec, or visiting the ruins of Karlův Hrádek.
