Semenec Lookout Tower

On Semenec Hill near Týn nad Vltavou stands the fourth smallest lookout tower in the Czech Republic. Originally a wooden pavilion, a 5-meter-high concrete tower was built in the 1930s, offering a magnificent view of the Vltava River and the entire town. You can reach the tower from the town center via Tyršova Street, turning left at the Sokolovna (gymnasium) and following the red tourist trail along Alej Míru (1.5 km). The red trail continues to Koloděje nad Lužnicí and along the Lužnice River to Bechyně.

Just a few steps from the lookout, you will find the Semenec Natural History Museum (www.muzeumsemenec.cz). Across four hectares, it offers unique natural history collections combined with game-based educational elements, adventure tasks, and activities for children. The museum also provides experiential programs for schools, ideal as an educational supplement or a school trip destination.

Semenec is also the starting point of the Trail to the Other World (www.stezkanaonensvet.cz), which winds through the picturesque South Bohemian landscape, connecting technical, cultural, and historical points of interest. The route is approximately 66 km long and leads from Týn nad Vltavou through the Lužnice valley to the Stádlec Bridge, then toward Milevsko, ending at the settlement of Onen Svět. The trail is steeped in local legends and mysterious sites described on educational boards.

Starting and ending at the lookout is also the Semenec Forest Educational Trail – The Larch Trail. This 5.9 km path with 10 stops teaches visitors about local history, nature, and forestry. You will encounter native and exotic trees, unique valley ecosystems, and a viewpoint on a cliff above the river.
