Crocodile Zoo Protivín
This conservation institution is dedicated to breeding critically endangered crocodile species and protecting their natural habitats. You can see giant crocodiles measuring over four meters, as well as newly hatched babies. Visitors can also view the collection of white crocodiles. The zoo maintains the largest breeding groups of the world’s most endangered crocodile species outside their natural habitats – the Indian gharial, the Sunda gharial, and the Philippine crocodile. It was the first in Europe to breed the Indian gharial, Cuban crocodile, and marsh crocodile, and it is the only zoo in the Czech Republic breeding critically endangered Siamese crocodiles. Incubators with crocodile eggs and newborns can be observed directly in the exhibition.
The tour also includes a collection of venomous snakes, featuring vipers. In the zoological museum exhibition, which is part of the zoo, visitors can view, among other things, a complete crocodile skeleton.
