From Hluboká to the Baba Viewpoint

The Baba Viewpoint is situated on a rocky cliff approximately two kilometers north of Hluboká nad Vltavou. Once a hidden gem known mainly to locals, it has steadily grown in popularity. It draws visitors with its fresh natural scenery, dramatic link to the river, and prime opportunities to capture striking sunrise and sunset photos. Finding the turnoff requires a bit of attention, but the views sweeping over the Vltava valley make the effort well worth it.

Multiple routes lead to the Baba Viewpoint depending on your preferred mode of transport.

• On Foot 
• The route follows a paved cycle path alongside the Vltava River before continuing on a forest trail around the game reserve.
• From the city center: Follow the red tourist trail along the Vltava River. The path takes you through pleasant riverside surroundings to the forest turnoff below the viewpoint (approx. 4.8 km total).
• Shorter option: Drive from Hluboká past the Hamry harbor. The road parallels the cycle path up to a small parking area by a shelter where vehicle access ends. Leave your car HERE and walk along the river (approx. 2.8 km to the viewpoint).

• By Bike or Scooter
• The route runs along the paved EuroVelo 7 cycle path from České Budějovice through Hluboká toward Purkarec.
• Distance from Hluboká is roughly 4.8 km (around 30 minutes).
• Bikes or scooters can be rented at Park Hluboká or the Kapitanát (Captaincy).
• Warning for inline skaters: The terrain includes steep inclines and sharp descents.

• By Water
• A small boat from Hluboká Harbor takes under an hour, while a faster motorboat gets you there even quicker.
• Motorboats can be rented directly at Harbor Hluboká or Park Hluboká. (options range from small boats requiring no license to higher-powered motorboats).
• A small dock directly below Baba allows you to moor boats, paddleboards, or houseboats. Step off onto the paved cycle path and proceed to the viewpoint turnoff.

Navigation to the Viewpoint (How Not to Miss It) 
Because the viewpoint is hidden, keep an eye out for these landmarks:

1. Riverside Landmark: Whether arriving on foot, by bike, or by boat, look for educational signpost No. 4 titled "Baba" on the cycle path. 

2. The Turnoff: Just past the sign, the red tourist trail branches off to the left (when coming from Hluboká) up a gently grassy hill. Leave bikes and other vehicles here.

3. The Game Reserve Fence: Follow the fence all the way to the top of the hill.

4. The Top: Turn right at the large memorial tree. The trail leads downward around a rocky outcrop.

5. Final Approach: Descend through denser vegetation toward the water until reaching the rock formation itself. Scramble up the final few meters to reach the viewpoint.

The viewpoint is freely accessible year-round with no entrance fee.
