To the Dam of the Bezdrev Pond

If you are looking for a pleasant trip from the center of Hluboká into nature, head to Bezdrev Pond. It offers an ideal combination of an easy walk, historical atmosphere, and plenty of options for summer refreshment.

Bezdrev Pond lies less than 4 km west of Hluboká nad Vltavou. It was built between 1490 and 1492 on the Netolický Stream by the owner of the Hluboká estate at the time, Vilém of Pernštejn. It got its name from the original marshland, which was completely treeless ("bez drev" / "without trees").

Spanning an area of 520 hectares, it is the second-largest pond in the Czech Republic and even holds first place in fish production. The dam measures 400 meters in length, reaches a depth of up to 7 meters, and is a protected cultural monument. It is also part of the European Natura 2000 network and the České Budějovice Ponds bird sanctuary.

You can reach the pond's dam on foot or by bike.
The route from the center of Hluboká nad Vltavou to Bezdrev is approximately 3.6 km long and completely flat.

• On Foot & By Bike: The path leads alongside Munický Pond. Along the route, there are plenty of benches inviting you to sit back and relax while taking in the view of the water's surface. The route is ideal for hikers, families with strollers, and cyclists alike.

The path across the historical dam takes you under the shade of massive, ancient oak trees, offering beautiful views of the open water and surrounding countryside.

Thanks to its sandy bottom and expansive open water, Bezdrev is a traditional and popular summer resort. The pond's natural environment invites swimming, sunbathing along the shores, and popular water sports such as sailing and windsurfing.

The adjacent campsite along the shore offers a variety of activities. Children and adults can enjoy a floating water park, water and sports equipment rentals, as well as a restaurant providing refreshments and accommodation.
