To the Monument to Záviš of Falkenštejn
A stop at the monument to one of members of Vítkovec family
A powerfull nobleman named Záviš of Falkenštejn was executed on this place. King Wenceslas II was feared by his growing influence, therefore, when a rebellion broke out in southern Bohemia, he used to captive Záviš as a hostage. Under threat of his execution, he forced the Vítkovci (noble family Záviš was part of) to surrender their castles. Only one remained unyielding: Záviš's brother in Hluboká. The royal army therefore carried out its threat and executed Záviš in the meadow below the castle.
The stone obelisk standing here today was erected in 1895 by Prince Adolf Josef of Schwarzenberg.
