Jiří David's cycle of paintings called The Power of Faces does not represent specific faces, portraits of people, as the artist worked with them before (the photographic cycles Hidden Forms or Without Compassion). These are more than a hundred magical faces resembling terrifying masks that insistently and unstoppably began to surface from the artist's unconscious at the beginning of 2023. They can remind us of shamanic or funeral masks, demons, mirages, ghosts that haunt us in our dreams.
