Černý Petr is one of the first films of the Czechoslovak New Wave and the feature debut of her best-known representative, Miloš Forman. The title hero is a young man who enters adulthood with an uncertain step. He works in a store where he has the task of guarding no one to steal, but unfortunately he does not have the courage to catch the thief or at least to remind him. After work, he spends time with his friends and parents, but he does not understand much with anyone. Their conversations consist of banalities, unanswered questions, and monologues without a pointer. Instead of a complete story, we are introduced to a series of loose episodes in which Forman portrays his heroes in everyday activities and tries to capture the spirit of the time. The absurdity of humor and the harshness of observing everyday life is striking. The film adds to its convincing character its documentary character, consisting in non-violent directing and casting some of the role of non-actors (Cinema on the Border)
