HR Giger was born as Hans Ruedi in 1940 in Chur, Switzerland, to a family of a renowned pharmacist. After finishing grammar school, he began studying architecture and industrial design at the Zurich School of Applied Arts. Just as he was fascinated by everything occult from a very young age, he was significantly shaped by surrealism in particular. He initially found inspiration, for example, in the work of Salvador Dalí, whom he met personally in the seventies, when he received an offer to collaborate on the film adaptation of Dune. He lived to be 74 years old, he died in 2014 in Zürich.
The exhibition Metamorphoses will present Giger's work in the widest possible context. Numerous drawings, airbrush paintings and sculptures will be exhibited. There will also be a selection of his iconic Necronomicon realizations, which captivated the American director Ridley Scott, for whom Giger designed the iconic Alien, for which he was awarded the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 1980.
Undoubtedly, it will be a generous show of this unique artist on more than nine hundred square meters and it will be his biggest exhibition realized in Central Europe to date.
